I think alex and I are getting good at this, apart from having to search to find running water (ended up camping deep in the woods near sough dike) it went really well.

I successfully made fire with only a flint & steel using only natural tinder (no paper, just material found in the woods) and alex got the kelly going in record time, it's sometimes a bugger to get lit, and he had a fire in that kettle in under 3 mins.

Sleeping in a hammock is a whole new learning curve, and the biggest lesson of the night was even if you're off the ground, your ass still gets cold if it's dangling in the air without a bedroll!

I think we covered about 10k over the weekend, so nothing too difficult, but I did twist my ankle...ouch!

Sorry for not making it to Mike's party or Ed's party, I did say it would depend on how tired I was.. and I was in bed and asleep before 21.00!

this weekend sees the first real venture in to hammock camping, I won't be going too far, just walking back in from wharncliffe.

not having a tent is making me re-evaluate lots of standard operating procedures I have for when I go camping...

... Like spare clothes - it's occured to me that there will be little room to change, or I'll just have to swing it in the breeze, or not change at all.

equally I'm thinking of different ways to store kit, mostly by hanging it from ropes or tree branches.

this weekend is going to be an interesting learning experience.
